COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio county is searching for to settle a federal lawsuit over pictures taken of intimate tattoos of up to 682 feminine detainees for $2.5 million.
Franklin County commissioners on Tuesday agreed to the settlement, which should be accepted by a federal choose.
The class-action lawsuit was filed in 2013 on behalf of girls who have been arrested for minor offenses between May 23, 2011 and April 30, 2014. Photos have been taken of their tattoos on or close to their intimate physique components once they have been booked into the county jail.
The jail stopped the observe in April 2014.
Each girl is estimated to obtain $2,735 below the plan. A 3rd of the settlement would cowl legal professional charges, prices and bills.
According to paperwork, the settlement doesn’t embrace males, detainees charged with felonies or those that had tattoos photographed that weren’t in an intimate space.
Under phrases of the settlement, the county would admit no wrongdoing. The sheriff’s workplace could be required to destroy the images and stop taking intimate tattoo footage of misdemeanor detainees.
