First of all presented as April Fool’s Day, Sun Crest is a real game for PC, Nintendo Switch and PS4. This is a vertical scrolling shooter in development at Platinum Games. Hideki Kamiya, PlatinumGames Chief Game Designer and creative director of Sol Cresta, talks about the game and how it was born.
Through the PS Blog, Kamiya he explains that he has always wanted to work on a game of this type, but over the years the market has evolved and has put aside “classic” works of this nature. About three years ago, however, he decided to propose to the director of Platinum Games a project based on the idea of a “hook and release” system of three fighters.
The director has proposed to make a sequel to the Cresta series (Moon Cresta, Terra Cresta). At that point Platinum had to ask for the rights to the current owners, namely Hamster Corporation. However, the president of the company quickly accepted the project. Kamiya, in reality, tells the whole story with a much more emphatic tone and explains that he had many doubts during the gestation of the project, obviously fearing that the president of Hamster Corporation would not accept the idea, considering it disrespectful of the Cresta saga. Fortunately, however, everything went well, as you can see from the commemorative photo that portrays Kamiya and President Hamada.
Sol Cresta is defined as a “Neo-Classic Arcade“, as it aims to blend the classic atmosphere of old-time games with the technology of the current generation and create a new gaming experience.
